Commissioned by exclusive whisky marque Royal Salute and designed by international award-winning British architect and furniture designer Sally Mackereth, the bar – named Neolithic – was built with ancient petrified oak sourced from the River Sava in Croatia. The precision design is made up of 106 separate segments, each cut to a 3.6º angle and colour sorted so the lighter, younger wood fades into the darker, older wood. The finished piece was debuted at Wallpaper* magazine’s Handmade exhibition at Salone del Mobile and is now touring worldwide at Royal Salute sponsored international polo tournaments. We stayed true to our roots by adapting our traditional carpentry techniques and tools to overcome the challenges posed when working with these ancient oak timbers to such a high level of accuracy.
